Justice Abdulaziz Anka of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on Monday, April 24, 2017 ordered the interim forfeiture of a 12-storey building belonging to Peter Nwaoboshi, a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and two companies; Golden Touch Construction Project Limited and Bilderberg Enterprises Limited for alleged contract Scam of N1.5bn.

Nwaoboshi's company is alleged to have supplied second-hand equipment to the Delta State Director Labour Agency sometime in 2010 through his company Bilderberg Enterprises Limited while the Delta State Government paid for new ones. The contract is alleged to have been worth N1.580bn and the property in question is located at 27, Marine Road, Apapa.

Counsel to the EFCC, George Chia-Yakua argued that his ex parte application was brought pursuant to Section 44 (2)(k) of the Constitution and sections 28 and 29 of the EFCC (Establishment) Act 2004.

Chia-Yakua urged the court to grant an interim forfeiture to prevent the disposal of the building pending the conclusion of investigations and when a criminal charge will be filed against the respondents.

The Commission had received a petition from an Anti-Corruption group, "Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum" against the Senator and his companies for alleged money laundering.

In order to trace funds suspected to be proceeds of illegal activities, the Commission made enquiries from the Corporate Affairs Commission, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Delta State Tenders Board, Ministry of Lands and Delta State Governor's Office, Nigerian Customs Service and the Code of Conduct Bureau.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Senator Nwaoboshi moved the proceeds from the contract sum to various accounts linked to him and his company, Golden Touch Construction Project Limited, bid and bought the said 12-storey building for N805m.

Justice Anka ordered the 12-storey building belonging forfeited to the Federal Government pending the outcome of the Commission’s investigations.
