Owoeye emerges as Osun seventh speaker


Hon. Timothy Owoeye, representing Ilesa East Constituency on Thursday was elected the Speaker of 7th Osun State House of Assembly.
Emergence of Owoeye, a fourth term member of the 26-member Assembly, followed the reconstitution of the new Assembly by the state governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola.
The new Speaker was elected unopposed because he was favoured by the leadership of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.
The APC was a major determining factor of who became the Speaker because it has 23 members against the People’s Democratic Party with 3 members in the Assembly.
Hon. Babatunde Olatunji, representing Ife North Constituency, on the floor of fthe House nominated the new Speaker and the motion was seconded by Hon. Elizabeth Abioye, representing Ifedayo Constituency.
Otherelected principal officers of the Assembly include Hon. Femi Popoola (Boripe State Constituency) as Deputy Speaker, Hon. Babatunde Olatunji (Ife-North State Constituency) as Chief Whip, Hon. Morufu Olarewaju (Irewole State Constituency) as Majority Leader.

Others are Hon. Moshood Kunle Akande (Olorunda State Constituency) emerged the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi (Ayedire State Constituency) as Deputy Chief Whip.
Hon. Babajide Kofoworola (Ede State Constituency) became the Minority Leader, Hon. Nasiru Olateju (Irepodun State Constituency) as Central Senatorial Whip.
Hon. Babatunde Komolafe emerged East Senatorial Whip and Hon. Babatunde Ibirogba as West Senatorial Whip.
Dignitaries in attendance at the event include Governor Gboyega Oyetola and his wife, Kafayat,  the Deputy Governor, Gboyega Alabi, former Deputy Governor, Otunba Titilaoye Tomori, former Speakers of the state House of Assembly, Hon Mojeed Alabi and Najeem Salaam among others.
